Post 36 HP Prodrive, Main Oil Seal Leak
Any repeat issues with Prodrive main oil seal leaks? Looking to buy used but owner says the seel has been replaced every 36 hours due to leaks. 2008 model. I think it has been modified with after market exhaust.

Also, the prodrive depends on multiple seals to protect the lower unit assembly, do these seals last long? Gears hate even the smallest amount of water!!

Is there another brand motor that tends to be most reliable? Performance is not a concern for me. I like dependability.

I have a 36hp PD with 500 hour on it and i have a little oil leaking from the motor somewhere, but not enough to notice on the dipstick. I change the lower unit oil every 50 hrs and have never noticed any milkyness to it, it always looks real good. Any problems that I have had were very minor and taken care of imediately by Pro Drive or something that I did to mess it up.

The crankcase gasket is a Briggs issue. Ive got 150 hours on my current PD and havent had a single issue as of yet, and those are hard hours.

If you are talking about leaking from the lower unit, this is the wrong sub-forum.

If you are talking about the crank case sump on the motor, it happens, usually not catastrophic and does not generally affect the reliability (i.e leak is minor).

Either way, if someone is having to replace a seal on either the drive or case gasket every 36hrs, I would bet they are not doing something correctly.
