Throw some metal shavings in there before you put the heads back on, it will clean up the residue.

Actually, a tablespoon of sand works a lil better. You gain at least 1 lost hp back almost instantly. Give it a shot.

normal , you can buff it off with a scorch pad and a little carb cleaner. put the piston at top dead center first.

Looks like your not running it hard enough. A lot of carbon build up in there.

I have the factory service manual for the Vanguards and it says that after 500 hours (might be less, don't remember exactly) to take off the heads and remove any carbon build up from the pistons. Are you running regular gas or premium?

with gas prices sky rocketing my lawn mower engine will drop down to plus lol
