Post 36HP Pro-Drive Governor
I have a stock 36 HP Pro-Drive with the exception of a MarshMellow Performance exhaust. I recently removed my Carb and Fuel Pump to clean them. I was very careful to replace everything exactly as it came off and I didn't do anything to the governor linkage. When I replaced everything and started the engine, the governor wants to idle the engine wide-open. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks in advance for any info!

Captain Obvious saves the day!!!!

DB8 helped someone fix this same issue on the MB forum not long ago. If you are a member over there, you could search for the thread. Or wait for him or someone else to show up for help. I know how to set it on the kohlers, but don't know if it's the same on the briggs.

Awesome! Thanks a bunch! I figured I might run across someone that has seen this before. Any chance you could send a link to that thread on the forum you mentioned? I'm new to the forums and not familiar with the MB forum. Thanks again!

I got in trouble the last time I posted something here from over there. Not sure you would be able to view it unless you are a member anyway. Getting "approved" takes a few days if you are not already a member.

If nobody's posted how to fix it yet by the time I get off work tomorrow, I'll try to search over there for it and post how to do it.

Don't know if this will help or not, but here is how to set it on the kohler: Turn the linkage towards the carb as far as it will go. Turn the shaft itself counterclockwise until it stops. Tighten the bolt that clamps down the linkage onto the shaft.

When you removed the carb, did you remove the governor plate off the shaft that comes out of the motor or loosen the clamp that holds it on that shaft?

I loosened the clamp but had marked it. I had also removed the carb bracket. I guess it moved just slightly enough..... I figured it out based on cb5331's response last night. Throttle actually feels better too now. Thanks a million guys!
