REplacing my 27 hp power head with something bigger
OK I have a 1754 g3 with a 27 hp kohler its a pro-drive with 130 hr on it and I need a lot more power. just me in the boat it does fine. I have not gps it but I think im doing around 25 mph but when I put any weight in the boat it falls on its face just with one guy and a dog and decoy it will olny do like 10 to 13 mph if that and I can forget a third guy I live in northern cali. I run the delta, rivers and klamath falls. so I dont see alot of mud but I run in 5 to 12 inches of water but a of hydrilla weeds so I was thinking of putting a new 40hp kohler on it what do u guys think would be best

Ditch that G3 and buy a 1748 or 1848 Pro-Drive boat or something similar and then see if you still want a new powerhead.

Re: REplacing my 27 hp power head with something bigger
Your not gonna get the full potential out of your motor until you buy a hull that is built for a surface drive, and a G3 is not. Nothing against G3, I own one, its just not made for a mud motor.

Re: REplacing my 27 hp power head with something bigger
Bolts up with different spacers from Prodrive, there are aftermarket parts and it will put up good speeds. Better built block, cheaper than the rest and a torque monster out of the hole and mid range.

Re: REplacing my 27 hp power head with something bigger
The evt exhaust would fit with minor modification. I think Bfenn gutted his stock one. Don't know what you would do for a new custom one until EVT gets a new builder for theirs though. My machine shop guy said he could build one, but he'd need the whole motor. Also a random machine shop guy probably isn't going to understand the need for bracing which we all know it's pretty damn important to get the bracing right.

Re: REplacing my 27 hp power head with something bigger
I had a new stainless exhaust built, Chops welded it up and got the parts from EVT. Carb is a must and a fuel pump!!!! You can get aftermarket parts from EVT, flat top pistons, cam and he can modd your stock heads.

Re: REplacing my 27 hp power head with something bigger
I bet you could buy this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Generac-44hp-Engine ... 2c5b51f58b Throw a carb, exhaust, and fuel pump on it and be ready to roll. Although I'm not sure if you would need anything wiring wise.

Re: REplacing my 27 hp power head with something bigger
I been talking to the guy on ebay. They are working on selling one with a mikuni already on it. Don't think they are gonna re-open shop until the end of march or early april though and they'll have to build your motor after that.
