Arias makes the forged flat top pistons that Performance V-Twin sales. I don't believe you can buy these direct from Arias. Probably have to contact Performance V-Twin or possibly a BPS Dealer. These pistons have a raised compression height and require the longer Eagle rods. I run a set in my motor and I've had several PM's inquiring info. regarding them so here it is. Arias- Phone # 310-532-9737 Part # 401116 Recommended piston to cylinder clr. .0035 Piston O.D. 3.3625 Stock Bore I.D. 3.366 Wrist pin O.D. .827 (21mm) Wrist pin clr. .0007 |

Je Piston will make you a piston. You just have to buy four pistons and they will do what ever you what on compression and gas porting the pistons |

Post subject: | Re: 35 HP pistons? |
Cheaper to buy je pistons from evt. If arias raised the compression height then you should only need stock length rods. |

Wait -- no piston ever REQUIRES a longer rod that I know of |

Post subject: | Re: 35 HP pistons? |
Only time you will need a longer rod is when you raise the wrist pin to bring the piston deck down but move the piston up further in the hole. |

Post subject: | Re: 35 HP pistons? |
OK --- so that makes sense But what dosent make sense is WHY you would move to wrist pin up and put a longer rod --- wouldnt the piston still be in the same place? |

ive been told that longer rods make more torque on car motors think it would be the same on these |

All you change is the compression ratio with rod length. |

different pistons for each compression stays the same |

Compression height is the distance between the center line of the wrist pin bore to the top of the piston. I don't remember the exact length because it was over a year ago when I measured my Eagle rods, but I'm thinking they were .120 longer than stock B&S rods. The Arias pistons have a compression height designed for the longer rod. If you ran a stock rod with these Arias pistons, the piston would be down in the cylinder at TDC. This would hurt your compression ratio. A longer rod dwells at TDC for a longer period. The theory is a longer cleaner burn. A lot of old timers started running 6" rods in 350 small block chevy's instead of the stock length 5.7" rod. It's still popular today. The key is to have a piston designed for the longer rod. Otherwise you would have .300 of piston sticking out of the cylinder at TDC. Compression height is : (Stroke divided by 2) (plus rod length) (minus deck height) Example : (3.480 divided by 2)= 1.740 (1.740 plus 5.700)= 7.440 (7.440 minus 9.000)= 1.560 A 350 small block chevy with a stock length 5.700 rod has a compression height of 1.560. Most engine builders, building engines with power adders (Nitrous, Turbo and/or Super chargers) will run a shorter rod and/or less stroke. This allows for a larger compression height and gives the piston manufacture more material between the wrist pin to the top of the piston for thicker/stronger ring lands. |

So if I'm understanding it right the wrist pin will be higher just not .120? |

That is why a 31hp crank with 3.5" pistons is a monster. Short stroke and long rod. That motor will spin 5600 plus. My gen has same stroke but a 1" shorter rod, makes gobs of power to 4700 but can't get over that hump. |

Preston I was sitting here scratching my head wandering the same thing, But once I re-read it and looked at the Dwg 50hptiller put up, I got it. After all that I can say I learned somerhing new. Longer rods are not always for booting compression. |
