Post subject:  GTR23 Mikuni Install Issue. Ex Manifold/muffler options help

I want to install a Mikuni carb on mt GTR23. BPS says I need their single crossover manifold/exhaust so it will fit. Stock manifold/muffler does not have necessary clearances for the air filter. I want to build my own manifold and muffler combo, preferably straight back pipe for each exhaust outlet. I have questions, but here is what I think I already know about this:

1. OD for manifold pipe is 1.25".
2. Have to fit flange to pipe either welded or compression coupling of some kind or slip on(?).
3. Muffler to manifold coupling can be welded or fitted and clamped.
4. I'll need to support each exhaust with connections to crankcase bolt points.

I need the following:

1. Exhaust pipe supplier
2. Flange and mechanical coupling supplier
3. Exhaust supplier.
4. Your suggestions, and I don't need to hear "buy one you idiot" cause that would be too easy. Remember it's my journey.

Thanks.

I need to but a damn welding machine. If I could build a flange/manifold muffler out of wood I would.

I talked to fellow out of California who will sell me some flanges with about 4" of pipe and a 2 into 1 collector. He said to use flex exhaust pipe for everything in between....works like a champ. The flanges and collector will cost a total of about $50. Anyone know the bolt center to bolt center of a Vanguard 23 exhaust flange?

Flex hose just looks cheap as phuck. Like I said before, Id buy a MM in pieces and make it work on da 23.

I think I'm going to use that same stuff on mine. I'm rigging an old bps on my 27. Theres nobody around that can bend that small pipe without kinking it. I'm only going to be using 3-4"on each side. I'm enrolling in a welding course at the college this fall then I'm going to build one.

If you aren't dead set on buying a muffler u should check out the one in the kohler forum on mb. A guy over there built one that looks real good. Didnt k know if you had access to a welder. I've talked with him thru pms and he has been very helpful. Thats the one I think I'm going to try when I get started in my welding course...among many other projects. My wife is gona be pissed when I take over the garage
