I don't think it compares to a Briggs!! Heavy, hard to start and have to feather bottom end to take gas!! Top speed is the same as a 35 Briggs!!

The 999 cc horizontal shaft Kohler is 7 lbs heavier than the 993 cc horizontal shaft Briggs. As others have stated, the carb on the Kohler doesn't work well when installed on a mudmotor. If Kohler puts the Delphi EFI on this engine I believe it will be a real winner. my 747 cc Kohler with the EFI is the smoothest and most responsive V-twin I have run. It is more expensive than the factory carburated engine but competitive with an after market Mikuni installation. I bought it for fuel economy on my long trips, but was amazed by the throttle response and how smooth it runs. A Kohler engineer, I have talked to, says the 999 with EFI will put out 45 hp. I want one to replace the 35 hp on my 24' boat.

Don't put a Mikuni on it, it will not last long.

I've asked before and never really got an answer. Just that it won't last long or won't hold up. I know they are having good luck with them on the tractors, but everyone in the mm world seems to have given up on em. I'd like to hear what is actually happening with them that makes the few who say anything say they won't last.
