I finally put it all back together and went for a a ride yesterday. This engine is probably one of the smoothest running stage 3 engines I've seen. I can turn the idle all the way down to 450-500 rpms with it still running smoothly. Top end speed seems to be about the same as before....I didn't have a GPS to clock it so I'm not real sure what i was running. As for bottom end...thats where this thing shines. I replaced the cheetah cam with the EVT 493f cam and now the hole shot on this thing is stupid! With the engine trimmed down it jumps on step like a regular outboard without bogging down...instead of needing to cavitate for 100 ft. What I like most about this engine is that I have all this power and my compression is under 200 psi. Now I'm gonna advance the timing a little bit just to give the throttle a little extra crispness. ![]() |

Engine does sound smooth. Question for you onthe mikuni. Do you have to warm up the engine for say about 3-5 minutes with the choke engaged before you run, or were you able to get her tuned where you can crank and run? I think I have mine tuned pretty well but I need to let it warm up for a few minutes or else it's temperamental. |

Hey man if you don't mind would you post everything you have done to your motor. I know you have tried some different things and just went back to stock on some things and am curious where you landed on everything. Thanks. |

Glad to hear your back up and running. I have to agree with ya on the 493f cam. I'm glad I called and asked ya about that when I was changing mine out. That cam is a monster on the low end |

What kinda RPM's you expect to turn on the top end? You plan on keeping them under 5k? |

Have you got to run this thing much? I was curious how hard you've been on those stock connecting rods and if they seem to be taking the high rpm's pretty well. Also, are you not doing any port work on the heads? |

Any particular reason for not doing any port work? Good deal on the rods! |

I thought that may be the reason. |

I'm not gonna just "grind" away at a set of heads, more than likely doing more harm than good. Some supposed performance guys around here market there heads as being "ported and polished" but have no f-ing idea if what they're doing is actually helping. But hey, at least they look pretty. |

Silkpower figured out his port and polish work by using a flowbench. That is also how we figured out the gen was not flowing as well as the Briggs on the exhaust side. |
