 single mikuni vs IM heads
I have a 35 mudbuddy and I am looking to give it some more power. What is the best upgrade to do first? heads or carb? I know briggs has some issues with their valves not seating properly from the factory so Im kinda leaning toward the heads and do a few minor things to the stock carb. Maybe putting a new cam in. Anyway what would yall do first? I am mainly concerned with load carrying and reliability rather than speed.

Do heads and exhaust first and see if that gets you what you need.

I have carbs, (Twin 30's) evt ported heads, w/roller rockers, duals. I have a 48 lower sprocket, had 6 northerners, or 3 southerners,(950lbs) peeps ,+ 3 pups, 2- coolers, 6 gals gas, etc) in there saturday, up 7mph river and cant keep it off the 4350 rev limiter. Runs great.

Re: single mikuni vs IM heads
Given the variability in the stock Briggs heads and valve seat, do the IM heads first. Yes they are decked and have oversized one-piece stainless valves. See where you are (as Owen stated) and see if you need to do more. The heads are the best power bang for the $$

heads for sure...
I just had my stock heads and valves lapped and with the evt exhaust it made a big difference!

Re: single mikuni vs IM heads
I think im going to end up doing heads and cam and do some minor mods to my stock carb.. I think this will get me where I want to be power wise.
