Post subject:  Exhaust leak?

Got my new MM exhaust in. My question is do they all leak at the slip fit where the muffler pipes meet the flange/head pipes? The flange design also will probably leak since the knurled header pipe slips fits into the flange with no gasket. My old EVT also leaked a little at the slip fit. Has anyone wrapped the pipes or slit the muffler pipe where it slides onto the header pipe and secured with a pipe clamp? Signed Sincerely, wtf?

You can feel the air blowing back on the block at the slip fit. Anyone else have this issue??

yeah mine leaks, could care less though it sounds 10x more bad arse

It has improved thanks to the carbon build up & really doesn't rattle except in cold conditions once it heats up she sits there & doesn't move.

If it has "slip on" flanges it will leak. They ALL do.

What ever you do don't weld it !! It has to have the slip on if not to much vibration and such !! It could break something else!! The slip on are kinda like a shock !! Just my thoughts !!

Ummmm, just me thinking out loud here but I'm thinking if someone is dumb enough to weld up there slip flange ( defeating there purpose) then they probably deserve what ever happens to it after that!
Plus everyone knows that you don't weld the slip ons you have to weld the exhaust flanges to the block! Alum2/10 rods will do the trick. ;)

BSH how loose is urs? Im doing the same setup with the slip fit on mine but its a lil too loose. I have about 1/16" gap around the flange stub that bolts to the motor. I gotta figure out how to flare the end of the fitting to make it a little tighter. The stub is 1 1/8 od. Still waiting on the pipe anyhow tho.

U could try to wrap some grafoil tape around your stubs that will smoosh and act like a gasket of sorts. We use it all the time at work on old crappy flanges that are pitted real bad and won't seal wif a regular gasket.
We used it alot at the last place I worked. I will check tomorrow to c if I can get some and will let u know.

If it bothers you guys that much just get some 1.5" or 2" exhaust wrap and SS bailing wire and wrap the flanges up.

Even eaisier go to a smaller jet. !!!!!!"Just Joking"!!!!!!!!!

Go ahead and make it a tight fit. Then get back wit us when you start breakin welds, because der is nowhere for da vibrations to be absorbed.
