16 HP vertical Vanguard V Twin Mounted horizontally.
Hey there new to the forums but have been in the planning stages of building a long tail motor. I have a Vanguard 16hp V twin that is a vertical shaft motor. I am wondering if this motor will run horizontally as the crank will still be down and all oil would therefore still be in the bottom end. I dont know if there is splash shields in these engines or not hopefully someone on here does. It would really be nice to use this motor as it appears the only difference is the mounting. but i believe with a longtail design i could get enough support out of a horizontal motor mount with a small guide support underneath the motor. Basically just looking to see If it is possible. I already have the motor and its a clean low hour motor and cant afford the horizontal. Any help is greatly appreciated.

only way to use that engine is to use a right angle gear drive. Will not work mounted horizontaly, designed to operate verticaly.

Re: 16 HP vertical Vanguard V Twin Mounted horizontally.
I just dont understand why it cannot be used horizontally. Its the same 90 degree overheard cam engine as the horizontal just different oil fill tube and mounts and whatnot. If anything I would think that putting the horizontal oil splash off the crank and as long as the pcv valve was still working this engine should still get plenty of lubrication. As long as carb was turned as well. They look like the exact same motor just different motor mounts and oil filler. Im sure the splasher is different too. but seems like less work then selling this and trying to find a good horizontal. Thanks guys
