I put on a carb on my new motor I had it out twice come to find out they sold me the wrong rev limiter they sold me the one that kicks in at 4600 rpm instead of 4300 it got it up 4600 about a dozen times do you guys think it hurt my motor at all it was only about 20 seconds each time and I had the lower bearings go out and it made my motor slam to a dead stop could that have bent my crank it was about 3000 rpm when that happend

 Re: rev limiter?
Valve springs should be shimmed above 4300 Rpms.

 Re: rev limiter?
turning a stock motor 4600 rpm's without other work done to it. [head work - push rods etc.] ur asking for problems. also out side ambient air temps affect a engines proformance also. if u got a bent crank u will know that real quick at start up.i take it that ur out drive bearings or clutch bearings siezed. just pull the spark plugs out and crank the motor over with starter and look at the crank i think u will be ok tho. have them send u the lower rpm limiter. good luck.

 Re: rev limiter?
Yep, if you're gonna be turning over 4300 all the time, you need to, at the very least, get the springs shimmed. Since you're gonna be replacing that bearing, go ahead & go down a size or 2 on the bottom gear. That'll drop the rpm's some so you will be able to get the full potential from the carb & trim the motor right without blowing the motor up.
