when u hooked up the power leads did maybe some one hook them up backwards ? all it takes is a second. also these engines don't show a good charge till u get to about 2000 rpms.

make sure the yellow wires on the side of the block with the plugs are pluged in tight.

its a CDI right?

You check it with a meter?

It's not a cdi motor. I checked with a meter, voltage does not rise at all at no matter what the rpm's are.

there is a plug that can burn up and cause this but if that's the case it would be better to bring it back to the dealer anyway. It's the clear or white harness plug around the starter, atleast thats where it is on a gtr and gd

Unplug the regulator and look at the plug. There is usually some sign on the plug when it goes. About $100.00 for the part unless its under warranty.

Checked both the plugs on the side under the cover, both look brand new no sign of arcing or anything burnt. With the motor running should I have voltage coming into the regulator?

Yeh, thats a little far for a road trip. I keep an extra regulator handy along with other spare parts.

on the 2 yellow stator wires u should have no less than 26 volts AC with the motor runnin at 3600 rpm!!

Post subject:  Re: 35 hyperdrive not charging

26 volts at each yellow or do I need to run a jumper between the two to get the 26v?

No jumper--unless you Want fireworks

26vac one meter lead on each, is what I'm reading.

Is your battery brand new??

Battery is brand new, I recharged and load tested it. The batt is good. I will see what voltage I have coming out of the yellow wires. Hopefully it's just the regulator.

Post subject:  Re: 35 hyperdrive not charging

So I have 26 volts coming outta the two yellow's. So this means the regulator is junk?

Author:  pokey79 [ Mon Jun 20, 2011 5:29 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: 35 hyperdrive not charging

disconect the red wire from the regulator and check dc volts with engine runnin at 3600 and if u have good volts u need to make sure that the red wire is hooked up behind the key switch it would be the single wire plug on the key switch!!!

Post subject:  Re: 35 hyperdrive not charging

Red wire is secure on the key switch. With the motor turning 3600 rpm's I have 13 volts coming outta the red wire of the regulator. With the key on motor not running I have 13 volts too. I think my regulator is not regulating anymore.

Post subject:  Re: 35 hyperdrive not charging

ok check volts at the little orange wire that goes to the solenoid of the starter with the motor running and then let me know where u at with that!!! if u wondering im just tryin to eleminate the key switch as ur problem!! Because the red off the regulator goes to the key and then it goes to the orange wire postion which goes back to the starter solenoid where ur battery positive is and thats what charges the battery!!

Post subject:  Re: 35 hyperdrive not charging

Battery was hooked up backwards when I picked it up from the dealer. The wire coming off the back of the starter had red shrink on that end then black shrink on the other end. Same for the ground wire, it had black shrink on the engine end then red shrink on the batt side.

If you disconnect the orange wire from the start, how much voltage should be there. when the motor is runnin 3600 rpm

it depends if u have the 20 amp charging system or the 50 amp charging system but it should be a little more than 13.0 and up!!!!
