Engine mods for running with a load
I am running a 31hp mb with the single carb, exhaust and 12.25 big blade upgrade on a 2054 gatortrax. The boat runs ok with 2 guys and a hunting load but add a 3rd man or more load and we are on the slow boat. Any suggestions (other than the obvious upgrade to the 7000) gearing , different pitch prop etc.

What is your RPM with load right now?
Do you know your current gear ratio (lower gear size)?

Re: Engine mods for running with a load
As far as performance parts goes, I would start with Iron Mountain heads, and add a cam if you still arent satisfied. That is provided that you dont have a problem with the hull (hooked) and your propeller is in good shape.
And, with the larger Gator Trax boats, they will handle a large load well however weight distribution is just as critical as if you had a smaller boat. Have you tried moving people/gear around in the boat (as far back as possible) to see how that changes how she performs?

Yes tried shifting the load every which way. As far as gearing they are the stock gears. And I need to get a new tach to see the RPM the one I have now went on the fritz last season. If I had to guess I would say approx 3800 to 4000 loaded.
