I got my 35hp carb installed it on my 31hp longtail.Boy does it run like a POS.Won't go over 3000rpm sputters and just runs like crap. The 31 had a switch on the bottom of the carb and the 35 does not have one.could this be it.Thanks for any help.

By 'switch' I assume you are talking about the anti-backfire solenoid that screws into the fuel bowl. Removing that solenoid has no affect on its performance.

I'd think it would need to be jetted differently for the 31, but I don't mess with stock carbs enough to be certain. Just thought it would make sense, esp. since it's running bad & won't go over 3k, sounds like it's flooding out on top end to me.

How long had the 35 carb been setting up? You sure your choke isn't staying open or something? You either got a dirty carb, something in the linkage is messed up, or you got an air leak somewhere. Did you replace all the gaskets when you put it back together or re-use the old?

We put a 36 carb on my dad's 32 and it runs like a champ. Did not have to change any jetting or anything like that. Just bolted right on.

The carb was brand new and has not had any fuel in it at all.The gaskets were used, all that I had at the time, new ones on the way I will run over what you all have suggested and make a tuning run today.First time I ran it was last night, made a frogging run,It was hard to try and make adjustments and stick croakers at the same time. Thanks for the info I will keep you all informed on progress.Oh yea left the house at 9:30pm back home at midnight with 49 frogs.

Yeah definitely look into other possibilities I did the same thing with my 31 and ran great with no adjustments and the solenoid on the bottom of the bowl I believe is to prevent the carb from flooding so it's not necessary at all

Well I got new gaskets,Installed them and it still run like crap.It is flooding out.Took the carb apart, with the carb upside down the float sit level. The needle and seat are clean and free moving.Knowing that this was a new carb what a peice of crap.Only thing I learn here was a 115 dollar mistake.Put the old carb back on and off I go.Thanks for everyones input in trying to help me.

Seen new parts fail too. Possibly some junk in the carb left over from manufacture. Send it back.
