I found out this afternoon that those 3 are not a good combination. Went riding with a few friends and the rain caught us. Parked the boats at the camp for a while and waited for it to pass. Well, it never really stopped raining, but it did let up some. The 3 boats that were running open air filters definately weren't running well after the rain got us. My buddy's new Dual PD rig (stock) ran fine. I'm guessing it was the wet air filters that caused this.

What are some of y'all doing to prevent this issue? I know MB sells a rainguard, but I'm hoping for something better.

Carry a large ziplock to cover it, of course not while running. Not sure what you could do when running.

Do u have the black stocking type cover over your filter? Supposed 2 b water proof.

The bad part is, my dumbass had a large ziplock bag in the boat. Never thought about putting it on when I stopped. I'm more looking for something to put over the carb/filter and leave it there.

I had the same issue last year during hunting season. I kept a ziploc freezer bag under the seat, if it looked like rain I would cover it. Now running was a different story. I think it was Craig who told me to spray the black cover with silicone spray. I haven't worried about it cause it hasn't rained. I did get another cover the other day when I picked up a cable from the boat dr.

I run the black water proof sock and haven't had a problem running in the pouring down rain, i spray it with Tiire Wet from Wal-Mart and that has worked the best

Silicone spray works... also panty hose. Grab a ripped pair from your old lady... Silicone spray on the black pre-filter + sun will dry it out so keep a spare around. Panty hose on top of the black pre-filter + silicone spray = no problem when raining & running... I always cover it when not running.

BPS makes a rain guard for the air cleaner on BPS carb kits for $18. I saw them on the Mudbuddy website.

I wouldn't recommend the BPS rain guard. It cuts the pre-filter, and sometimes the K&N too.

I had the same issue last week. Boat sat at my office and got rained on most of the day. Took it out that evening and it just popped and sputtered. Next day I found some water sitting in the bottom of the pre-filter. My guess is when the motor was running, it was pulling some of this water in.

Just in case, I took the carb off and drained it, sprayed it down with some carb cleaner and it ran fine the next day.

Sure sucks to drive 2 hours and have to use the trolling motor to fish.

Would be nice to find something we could bolt onto the carb shield.

Maybe just a modified milk jug and bungee cord.

It would be simple to rig one up with a paint stir stick, plastic coffee can, & some zip ties. Zip tie one end of the stick to the BPS carb shield. Cut the can so it fits over the filter & around it about 3/4 of the way. Either punch holes in the can & zip tie it to the stick, or run some short screws through the can into the stick. Definitely a Leroy fix, but it should work.

I'm designing a good one, but haven't got all the details worked out yet. Let yall know when I do. ;)

Camo and Coe need to get together on the next rainy day for a most rediculous filter cover contest!!! :
Ive been told BPS covers are not made any more because of prefilter damage.
I have some pics of folks using the stock filter cap of a briggs motor and attaching to the carb guard to cover the filter. It may not look great but looks to keep your filter dry.

If you go fast enough you don't have to worry about the rain!

That's very similar to the one I designed, but looks like it mounts differently.
