 Re: PRO-DRIVE 27HP -PHOWLER 1756
i've got a Phowler 1752 with an 18" huntdeck on it. about to drop a MB4000 on it. The previous owner of my boat had a MB4000 on it and was getting speeds in the upper 20's, and low to mid 20's loaded down with gear and 2-3 people. i was told to go with at least a 35 to get any type of speed out of it that i would be content with.

 Re: PRO-DRIVE 27HP -PHOWLER 1756
Thanks for the comments fellas and I can appreciate the fact that the 36 will outperform the the 27hp, however, how much? It's an increase of nine (9) hp but what is it getting for the additional $1100? Assuming deep water and everything else equal.
27hp Loaded one rider: Speed = ? Un-Loaded one rider: Speed = ? 36hp Loaded one rider: Speed = ? Un-Loaded one rider Speed = ?
Bring it on. Thanks

 Re: PRO-DRIVE 27HP -PHOWLER 1756
How much weight are you expecting to haul on a normal hunt. How far do you usually go? Also it may make more sense to think of that 9hp gain as a percentage gain. 9hp isnt that much when you are talking about a 250hp outboard, but 9hp when you are talking about a 27 or 36 hp, it is significant.

 Re: PRO-DRIVE 27HP -PHOWLER 1756
Good point, a 30 to 35% increase in hp is significant with these engines... I am thinking the weight loaded would be an average guy at 200lbs and say 4 dozen deks, mojos etc..not sure their weight maybe 75lbs?? usually run across large body of water and river about 1.5miles to the shallows. So call it 300lbs loaded.

Get the 36 and add a stage one, you will never have enough power.

that 1,100.00 dollars is the cheapest 9 hp you'll buy.

 Re: PRO-DRIVE 27HP -PHOWLER 1756
Hey guys, here is almost what I was looking for from a search..posted Jan 22, 2009 by the muddoctor aka Paul Willging. Just need same now on the 36PD. Thanks Paul. Awesome!
We have run alot of our boats with 27PD. First off, a 27PD is really a two man rig in most situations (with dog and full gear). An 1848 with 27PD will run at 24-26 alone, 20-22 with two guys and 16-18 with three average size guys, but you have to watch the gear and blind weight. We also ran a 1752 V front with a 27, it would plane at 15-17 mph with four people, no gear, so really the same as three folks with gear. The V's do seem to plane a bit easier with a load. Again, with most boats, a 27 PD is a two man rigs, three if you don't have a 240+ guy in the group. Again, if running a 27, go longer, it will help with planning a load. We have also seen improvements with the new three blade prop PD is using on the 27 PD, so you might want to get the three blade to help with loads.

 Re: PRO-DRIVE 27HP -PHOWLER 1756
a 27 is a strong motor but you will always want more power. I have seen first hand a 2036 skiff with over 1000 of dudes in it run about 15-18 in deep water. It wasnt fun put it did it. A 36 will push the same load in the same boat well over 20. Just get the 36 and be done with it, or do what everyone else has done a get a 27 drive it for 10 hours and try to sale it in this bad market so you can by the 36.

 Re: PRO-DRIVE 27HP -PHOWLER 1756
I'm convinced fellas...the additional $ for the 36 should be well worth it....time to step up and let it chase a Phowler 1756 and not worry about it. Thanks for the input.
