Heck Im trying to figure this out myself. I can see the point of the groove, cause it will "channel" the compressed mixture closer to the spark plug for a more effiecient burn. The only "faster" burn I would see is since MORE of the mixture is near the plug is has a better chance of all the fuel getting burned. That being said you are getting more out of what you put in, because it was going to be a waste. I don't know much about alcohol fuels other than it has a HIGHER octane rating than Gasoline but has less BTU's than gasoline. I do know if you increase the compression ratio you can make more power with alcohol cause its high octane (resistance to preignite). Most guys know the more compression the more efficient an engine can be, hence a diesel, but thats another story. Hell whats your take on it? Thats bout all I can think of. EDIT, after reading this excerpt it shows what I said above and also that since there is less poer per unit, you will consume more Methanol than gasolin with the same power output. It says that Methanol burns at a LOWER temperature than gaoline too. It dosent say it burns SLOWER, but at a lower temp one would think it burns slower too.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methanol_fuel |

Basically Either way is beneficial to make power depending on what route you want to take. I learned something new everyday! Whos gonna build an alcohol Briggs? LOL |

A tank full of methanol in your boat for the weekend in the winter would b a milky water soaked mess before u got to the landing. Would that have any effect on performance? |

Cody.......You ever thought of gas porting pistons on these motors? I've had a couple of my small block pistons vertically gas ported and ran a .043 top ring. Its good for a few HP. 450 Head Gaskets 006.jpg |

??? hows that work? Seems like you would have to be on your P's & Q's with the fuel to air ratio, Too rich and carbon could plug those gas ports up. |
