Post Alright fellas, need yalls help once again.....
I have a 16x44 go devil boat and about to purchase a pro drive.....PROBABLY going with the 36 with manual reverse, but not throwing the 27 out the window just yet. Anyone know what kinds of speeds I will be running with either or if the 36 is going to be "TOO" heavy if possible? I had a 27 hp long tail on it but sold it. Thanks fellas.

We had the transom built up on my buddy's 1644 and put a tall transom 27pd on it. It's got some free board, but it'll still take some water over the back if you slow down too fast. Especially with only one person in the boat. I probably wouldn't put a 36 on one, but that's just me.

The cut back transom and the prodrive really don't get along with each other too well. We knew that going in to it and were willing to sacrifice a little bit of performance to make it work. I didn't have a gps when we ran it, but I'd say right around 20 with us two in it. Not much faster and maybe slower with only one of us in it. Kinda needed some weight to hold the front of the boat down. With four people in it, it wasn't horrible, we chugged along pretty good, but the other 2 with us were pretty light.

We had a pretty good idea what we'd get out of it, and would say we were happy with it overall. Lot better than the driving it around with the old longtail on it, no doubt about that.

That GD cut back transom takes the displacement out right where you need it - under the motor, which makes it squat.

I am back and forth about it so bad right now...I mean I don't wanna spend all that money on buying a 36 and it not work worth a crap on my boat. The long tail I previously had on there I think is about 40-50 pounds lighter then the pro drive surface drive. I'm on about 180 myself, but I thought about adding 2 sand bags up front to compensate for the rear end weight issue. I mean I reckon the more power the better, but don't wanna end up getting something that is not even gonna work. I'm shocked nobody on here has a go devil rig with a pro drive motor.....maybe a bad thing?

I wouldn't add sandbags to the front. Unnecessary weight. As others stated move everything up front. Where are you located? Theres a pro-drive dealer in the Lancaster/rock hill area that im sure would be more than willing to drop a motor on your hull and see how it does

Why not just put another motor on it? That or sell the go devil and get a boat that will perform better and is more ment for a pro drive?
