Post copperhead mod question
Other thing I was wondering about is if anyone has tried doing any kind of stage kits on a copperhead and if there was any significant results? Been starting to think about it, but wanted some input if there was any!

Has anyone did any work to there's and notice much diffrence? Didn't know if it would make a big diffrence on a smaller motor?

top speed with my 6.5 gdlt was 13.1mph with just a different exhaust and tweaking the governor

uf is a prime example of the problem with the smaller mm. you buy a small boat and add a small mm. the next thing you ask it to do too much.

mod, mod, mod is all you hear. thats ok for the big motors cause thats the largest available motor. but when you start with a 6,10,12 hp etc. and want it to make 50hp you have done yourself a big wrong. if you want or need more power, get a bigger motor to start with.

get a small motor and except it for what it is. dont try to buy a 2500 dollar motor and try to make it work. you wont be happy.

uf, im not calling you out. im just saying its a little motor, dont ask it to do too much. if it doesnt do what you want it to then get a bigger one.

Hunt4deer. That's pretty harsh man. Some of us don't have the money to purchase a new 35 mm. I'm sure he isn't trying to get 50 hp out of a 6.5. That's just retarded to even think that. Maybe he is like most of us here and likes to play with motors. I think u were Callin him out honestly. And by the way there are tons of stuff to do to any motor to get a lil extra out of it.

With a larger motor comes more weight, a modded motor is same weight but more power.

Well if you want a little motor to put on a small hull and want to tweak it so be it. I have a small Kevlar hull that I would love to put a lil copperhead on. I just have no use for it at the moment but it would make a great lil camp rig.

Hunt, for what its worth, I owned a 32 prodrive motor when I lived in louisiana on a nice mud boat and was slower than the copperhead I have now! Moved back to florida, and where I live there is a 10hp restriction! That's another reason some of us might buy these motors as well. I don't have to stroke my ego on a big mud motor, have twin 250 verados on the back of a donzi if I need the power or attention, just saying! Thanks for the comment on the exhaust though. Maybe this will help some others out as well that are looking for a little extra!

YOu can build them little motors if you want UF, most of your parts are gonna come from go cart racing sights, i'm sure you could make that little thing scream if you wanted too

I would first off get a 13 hp harbor freight motor for 300 bucks and them spend about 1000 on mods and run abot thirty mph

Just my input. This past Sunday I brought my custom 16X36 flat to Gil with Copperhead. He let me test his new 18HP Vanguard surface drive......I have video on utube of another guy and myself going 23.2 mph. That little engine flies. It is an all aluminum and very light. I asked Gil about a larger engine. He said that he is not trying to compete with other companies. He is concentrating on providing lite weight surface drives for people where weight is an issue. With that being said, his engines are greared where they haul butt. I'm getting one mainly because of the weight/speed vs. the weight/speed of the Mudbuddy 23 mini. About 50lbs. diffrence.

UF, it wasnt at you.

i just think people ask these little motors to do more than the were ment to. when they dont proform they blame the motor. that kinda gives the little motor a bad rap.

general hypothetical comment " i had one of those xyz motors and it wasnt worth a $hit " because i was trying to pust 2000# in a 20x60 boat with 12 hp.

scavenger in point, i had one so i know what they are. most people think they are junk. well there not that bad. if you do what they were made to do they work well. i think they are a better choice for rocks than any of the others, if speed is not a major concearn.

again this was not to call UF out, just an observation when it comes to moding motors or trying to do more than they were made to do.

You can make that 10 hp turn 20 hp easily and reliably without breaking the bank.

Just keep an eye on RPM's 8-)

That's cool then, and yes I agree that these are smaller motors and will still only do so much given there size. Tweaking things a little to maybe get a little more is never a bad thing though! Just looking for simple stuff like a diffrent carb and exhaust or somthing that still makes them reliable!
