Post 32 prodrive
Im having a issue in my drive way my motor idles and runs up too 3500 rpm perfectly. Then i put it in the water and the motor dies out once you take off. Its like any load kills the motor. It will also idle funny after this as well. Some black smoke as well once it kills out it doesnt wanna run right at all. Motor has a new fuel pump and carb has been rebuilt. Any help is appreciated thanks ahead of time.

I have the same exact motor and I had some similar problems with mine that your having with yours. When I first got mine it didn't want to idle and if I tried to give it some gas to take off and run it would spit and sputter blowing some black smoke and then just die. I went and talked to my dad and told him what it was doing and the first thing he asked me was What kind of gas I was running. I had been running regular and he told me to start running premium in it and to run about half a can of sea foam in the first couple of tanks and ever since then I haven't had any problems at all with it. Now I run nothing but premium in it and it runs great. I also replaced the spark plugs in it but I don't know if that made any difference or if it was the gas.

Could be several things.

Did the problem just start? Have you been running it a while with no problems?

But ck your choke. Make sure it is not creeping on you.... Or if you made any changes that required you to move the cable that you got it set right... Easy to mess up and doesn't take much....

The choke wants to naturally "fall" they way it is mounted so if when you set the cable you don't get it pushed all the way up, you can have a problem. Also, even if set right, the vibration tends to make it creep out on you. I put a spring on mine to keep it from creeping.

I just bought the motor from someone, And i used all premium good fuel. I have also replaced fuel tank and all lines. I checked the choke cable and it is installed right that was one of the first things i have checked. Whn you take the air box off and look inside there seems to be a lot of fuel in there to me. Like it is running to rich, Anymore info would be a huge help thanks alot

Where are you located?

You say you just purchased-so it never ran right since you got it?

When was work done on it?

Have you cked to make sure both cylinders are firing?

If it is putting out black smoke then it is running rich. Have you tried running it with the air cleaner removed. Could be that you have a restriction there. Also get full exposure where you can see the choke butterfly and make sure it is fully open.
