OK, so I printed off the sticky "Prodrive Maintenance" thread on this forum and the information called for a Champion RC14YC as being one of the replacement plug options. The instruction also called for a .030 gap, as does the Vanguard owners manual. I pulled out the OEM plugs that came with the motor and they were Champion RC12YC, not RC14YCs. Furthermore, they were gapped between .035 and .040. The color of the plugs looked good, but the motor has always been hard to start when cold and has always idled rough. The motor seems to be idling smoother after the plug change, but it could just be my imagination. I have 57 hours on this motor. My questions are: What is the diff between the two plugs? Will I screw anything up running the RC14YC? Why would the motor come from the factory with such an incorrect spark gap and does it really matter? Thanks in advance for answers. |

When I had Champion 14's in, I got a lot of spark knock. I run 93 octane. I switched to the NGK v power plug and no problems. |
