BPS 'Q' is your best shot. Besides that good luck

I've also heard the Q gives you the best performance out of the BPS exhausts

IMO it is. Heard it on a mb 7000 and I thought my stock exhaust on my 35 was considerably louder

Re: Lets go a different direction with mods
Why would you want it quiet?
You plan on sneaking within 20 yards of ducks?

Lets go a different direction with mods
I would like one for Scouting
Even if you stop way out and glass the area for birds they still jump when you head out unless you idle way further out then they still might jump

Re: Lets go a different direction with mods
I dunno, I just like noise... Where I hunt rubbing limbs and trying to navigate thickets makes just as much noise as the exhaust. You will never get right on ducks with a mud motor, they won't jump so soon that you can't see where they came from with the loudest exhaust out there.

Re: Lets go a different direction with mods
I heard the Marsh Mellow double barrel with baffles today, and I thought it was pretty quiet, and sounded really good. BUT, he said he lost 2 mph with the exhaust vs his old exhaust....quiet seems to come with a compromise.

Re: Lets go a different direction with mods
Do a search for Cowl industrial silencers. These are being used on traditional mud boats with v8s, v6s, and 4 cylinder subaru engines. They are unbelievably quiet. I have yet to see one used on a air cooled engine.

Re: Lets go a different direction with mods
CMURPHY, if you can find an old muffler for a dirtbike(4-stroke) or side-by-side, then you may be able to design your own.
I am also in the process of trying to find something to make my Copperhead a bit more quiet and reroute the exhaust. I think this may be a DIY project.

Re: Lets go a different direction with mods
Back when I was in high school, I had glass pack's (cherry bombs) on my hot rod and I got into a large amount of trouble driving around in town. I figured out it was easy to just pack the pipes with a little steel wool when I needed to go through town and take it out when I wanted them to sing. As long as it doesn't create too much back pressure on the exhaust, you should be able to do this when you need too. I had to rig a small screw behind the steel wool pack to hold it in place while it was in there. This is real red-neck but it works.

Re: Lets go a different direction with mods
Jus sayin... You sound like an old man that sits out on the dock and shakes his cane at every boat that rides by. You ever seen or heard a bass boat roaring down the channel at 70+ mph? Pretty sure that damn thing is at least as loud if not louder than my motor. How bout your shotgun? You don't think that scares the ducks? But somehow we manage to shoot at more than one flock in the morning, sometimes have more coming in before you get a chance to reload.... Your thinkin' to much in to it. If you want your motor to be quiet, more power to ya, but don't run around here shakin' your cane at everyone else because you don't like it.
We run free flowing exhaust because we are trying to get every bit of power out of these things that we can. We run big loads across long distances, and we need all the power we can get in order to do it. 35/36hp won't hardly do it and actually makes it quite dangerous if crossing big water under powered. If you wanna restrict your already restricted motor even more, go for it, but quit being a dick with the "ha, you're the reason" bullshit...

Re: Lets go a different direction with mods
In my very first post, I advised that you use the search feature. There is pictures and information already on this website of what others have done to try to accomplish the same goal. LOOK FOR THEM... The engine itself is pretty noisy so getting rid of some of the exhaust will only help sooo much. As also noted above, most of us are trying to free up hp, not restrict our motors even more so there is not a whole lot of people doing what you are trying to do. There is some people who have. They have posted pics...
There is a few "quieter" high flow exhaust on the market but they are not really any quieter than the stock exhaust as the boat passes you. Couple of them may be 1-2db (which is an inaudible difference) at the drivers seat because of the position of the outlet, but it will not be any quieter to the people you pass sitting on their docks or to the ducks.

Re: Lets go a different direction with mods
What size/brand motor? The new stock stainless exhaust that briggs is shipping on the marine engines are pretty quiet. (in comparison to the performance exhausts or even a 2 stroke outboard) If you are just looking to quiet it down and not expecting improved performance, I would look at adding baffles/silencer to outlet of a stock exhaust.

Re: Lets go a different direction with mods
Another with the same info, because the person in the last one didn't use the search feature either... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=20041&start=0&hilit=silencerIt's really not rocket science. Add an ATV silencer or use a more restrive muffler. You could run a longer pipe down closer to the water that will make it quieter in the boat, but not a whole lot quieter for the people you are passing...
