I really need to know how to get rid of the rev limiter. By pass it or something. I'm topping out at around 3500rpm in the water, under strain. I don't think this is normal. Surely I can get better than that? And I'm only topping out at 20-21mph according to GPS. I'm running a 35hp MudBuddy SD, on a 1850 Gatortrax. Those rpms and speed were recorded with me and girlfriend in boat. She weighs maybe 115lbs soaking wet, me about 230. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want this thing to really open up and run like it should.

What are your out of water RPM's?

3900-4000. I almost know that I have seen guys on here that say theres is higher than that. And surely my speeds could be increased right?

I've got mine set out of water to 4200. In water solo I'm running around 4000. Wheres ur prop at in the water? Sounds like its completely sub-surface

If the motor can turn 39-4000 out of water, then it can turn that much in the water. Of course this assuming that the butterfly on the carb is opening up all the way, choke is not sticking, and the motor has the power to turn that hard. You can safely turn it up to around 4300 if you wish, though that will not likely change the way it runs in the water. There is a screw on the linkage that allows you to do this. Search Deadbird8's posts for a labeled picture showing you what to adjust....search governor, idle, linkage, etc. It's on here a bunch of times, you will find it.

When was the last time your valve lash was checked? How about ur air filter?

Assuming you have a stock carb then you have a governor (rev limiters are electronic used with the performance carbs when the governor is locked out). Turn the governor screw clockwise to turn up the RPM OOW (search for one of my posts). If carb is stock, then also take off that green foam ring around your air filter, it just restricts air flow.

3500 is low even with it set at 4000 OOW, make sure you don't have any fishing line between prop and back bushing - acts like a brake.

Thanks so much for the help. I know where the governor screw is, but not sure where the idle screw is. Would I need to adjust it if I turn up the governor screw? What is an ideal idle RPM and wide open RPM? Also, this is in deep water. I am running my whole prop just under the surface. Is that where it needs to be? I am also running the Big Tiger Prop. I will remove the green foam from around my air filter. So is 20-21mph all I'm gonna get out of it? I mean, I'm not expecting 50mph, but like Ricky Bobby said, I wanna go fast. In reality, I just wanna go as fast as I can with my setup. I really appreciate all the replies, and anything else that ya'll feel I should know, please fill me in. Still learning how all this works.

Idle should be around 11-1200. Wide open, you can set your OOW to 42-4300.

Prop should be close to half in, half out and throwing a nice rooster tail when running wide open. If you are running it completely submerged, that is why you aren't getting any speed.

And it doesnt necessarily mean u have to run half in/out. Each boat/motor has a certain sweetspot for speed. I just like ticking all them pricks with their 40k speed boats cuz my roostertail is bigger haha
