 1st oil change
Ive heard alot about how it's usual to find metal flakes on the magnet aft the first oil change after the 5 hour break in, just changed mine and did not find a single flake. What's yalls thoughts? And the guy at lows gave me the yellow briggs oil filter which is rated to only 30 hp but he said it'd be fine

 Re: 1st oil change
Thanks for the reply and yeah it's the same size but claims that it's "professional grade" and works 2x better then the standard brigs big block filter and it's the same price so I got it

 Re: 1st oil change
I didn't have any metal flakes and the drain plug was clean on my last two sd's. As far as the oil filter, you should be ok. Next time just get a Wix from your local auto parts store. I'll post the number on the one I use.

 Re: 1st oil change
The only difference is the B&S filter has a check valve in it to keep oil in the lines at all times.

 Re: 1st oil change
ive looked at all the filters made. though not for a briggs but a bunch of different ones. they all have some sort of anti syphen valve. most of them have a high pressuer bypass. i hear about keeping the oil passages full all the time. well this applies to all motors. the valve if you look is nothing more than a rubber ring naer the inlet that acts as a check valve. some you can see some you cant, but all the ones ive seen have one. as for say a fram exploding, ive heard it too. but they or some of them have a bypass valve inside that will allow the oil to flow through w/o being filtered. i suspect this is in the event the filter material becomes clogged or oil pressure is too much for the material to flow through. the only way to blow one up would be if the pressure were too much for the can to hold, but if its only flowing through and not being filtered that would be alot of pressure.
now as for the quility of these parts you get what you pay for. the wix haas more material inside. it may be better material also but i cant say. also check on the store brands. some are made by the better standards. my truck is one. its a 6.0 ford. oriles has a store brand that is the same as a motorcraft. they are just in a different box. its $11.00 cheaper.
