 Performance HEADS??
Ive got a PD with mikuni/marshmellow and was considering getting heads, but before I do I was wondering what exactly do they do? Whats the differece from factory heads? Is there any thing else that needs to be done in conjunction with the heads? Im, just tryin to do a bit of homework before my warranty runs out and I drop any more money on it. Are there andy dangers or hazards of installing heads? are there any options other than Iron Mountain Heads? All feed back is greatly appreciated

 Re: Performance HEADS??
The BPS IM heads are decked, ported, bead blasted, and have Stainless Steel oversized one-piece valves and seats installed in them. The valve springs are shimmed to allow higher RPM operation. The valve work provides a superior seal to the stock valves (which suck by the way). When people install heads and see major gains, their stock heads were probably leaking badly.
Give Boat Dr a call- he usually stocks several sets (504) 224-2814 and has the upper gasket sets required for install. Its pretty straight forward install.

 Re: Performance HEADS??
do all the other heads come with valves also or just the BPS? Will I get major gains from this mod? How much and how easy is it to do myself or let a pro do it?

 Re: Performance HEADS??
I guess it depends on who does the work, some install the SS valves as an upcharge- it requires machining for the oversized seats. Others just re-work the stock valves and seats to get a better seal (vavle job).
Gains are different on each motor depending on how your current setup is operating. When people see tremendous gains, they probably have leaking stock valves. (see pic below)
As far as installing them, its really not hard, requires common tools but you must have a torque wrench.
Power going out the intake valve:

 Re: Performance HEADS??
An engine is basically an air pump. The more efficiently you can get more air/fuel through it the more output power you get. I would strongly suggest a higher lift cam that will open the valves more and for a longer duration. This combined with heads and the other mods you already have should make a significant improvement. You can do the install yourself if you pay attention and take your time. Give Calen at Calens engines a call. He and the Boat Dr. both give great advice here and many are very happy with them.

 Re: Performance HEADS??
I appreciate yalls feed back! The guy i was going to get to do it said he already has the heads and would just swap mine out and send those in to get reworked. He didnt mention anything about valves. i did have him check the valve clearance and 1 intake and 1 exhaust valve was off, but he said not by much at all. He said $650 for the heads and labor to change it. Is that a good deal or what?

 Re: Performance HEADS??
Thats what Im thinking to. I will get with them and ask more educated questions now that we have talked and i have been informed. I will probably hold out 9 months or so untill my warranty is completely out before doing this. Thanks for all your help.
