 Need help with Prodrive
OK fellas I'm stumped.
I have a 1650 gatortrax w/ huntdeck and a 36 PD. Both are set to tall transom. I did this so I could swap to a outboard later if I wanted to.
Here is my question My PD is stock my prop is stock. When I'm running deep I can get about 22-23 mph with two men and dog 24 - 25 shallow. But I'm only getting 3800 rpm's on motor if I trim up or down I loose speed. If I trim up to get aroun 4100 rpm's I've lost 2-3 miles an hour.
What do you think I need to do? I talked to KP about this a few times and he didn't really have any suggestions. I know that the govner is set for 4200 and I can get up there in neutral but not with the prop in water.
My prop is 12.2 if I'm not mistaken and I don't have any hooks in the boat. Usually I wouldn't be concerned but I was riding this weekend and a gatortrax with similar layout load was running 27 plus.
I'm not a speed demon but want to get the most out of my rig.
Any suggestions on where to start?
I do know that when I put my motor in reverse at a certain trim angle that I can hit the bottom edge of transom. I'm curious if my transom is to high for the motor. When I say certain angle I mean if I don't trim up after running forward for a while I'll hit the boat.
Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
When you are trimmed right how much prop is in the water? how much weight are you running? any extra weight up front? how far up the transom is your cavitation plate hitting?

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
It looks to be about 1/2 in 1/2 out
Have 9 gallon fuel up front and trolling motor battery. Have run it down to almost empty without any noticable differnece. Haven't pulled battery yet. Might try that this weekend. Not really seeing much differnece between 2 people 500# + 100# lab and 1 person 220# + 100# lab. If I put three people 750# plus 2 dz dekes and grass blind w/o 100# lab I'm down to 18 mph.
The cav plate not hitting the prop is.

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
Well barnes I'm not to that point. Still love neutral and reverse.
I have 1 gun box 2 1/2 boxes 2 batteries and trolling motor. Speeds don't seem to change between duck season and fishing season or when just riding around. Weight change (not distribution) doesn't seem to really effect it until I really load it down.

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
i think your transom height is off if your blade is hitting. check your angle also

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
Tall transom height for a PD is 19 1/2". Check what yours is. Also you need to do a leakdown test.

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
If transom/motor match in height (i.e. setup is good) then there are some things you can try
-Bypass the governor and see if its holding you back.
-Get a compression and leakdown test done on your motor. Possible you have leaking valves that are robbing your power (not uncommon).

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
I'm checking the transom height this evening. The transom has a wedge built in that angles the transom out away from the boat. When I measure should I put straight edge under the boat and drop plumb bob straight down to measure?
Also as far as compression leak down test how do I go about doing this or who do I need to take it to to have it checked?
Really appreciate the help.

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
Also what is the warranty period on 36PD? It's about a year old but has 108 hrs on the motor. Is the warranty 36 month or is it 36 months / xx hours?

You ever thought it's the boat!! I really never seen any g-trax boats with any good numbers especially with stock motors

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
DDM I understand why gator trax runs a little slower. I just don't understand why the same rig with a 35MB running that much faster with comparable load.
I have had some issues with the engine from the beginning. It wants to choke out and die in "open" water when picking up decoys. I set the idle to 1100 in neutral and it seemed to help but still drop as low as 600 rpms from time to time and that is with the prop turning off bottom.

I'm with DDM on this one... You might have some powerhead issues, some transom angle issues too, plus those boats have always been slower than average. Why do you think Mudbuddy started modding motors way before everyone else? Their boats were slower.

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
OK I did some calculating and measuring.
True vertical to top of transom plate is 20-7/8". The angle on plate is 20 degrees. I confirmed with KP the 19.5" and 15 degree transom.
Checked the bottom and no hooks.
I'm thinking the additional height is putting my motor at a non optimal angle to get prop 1/2 and 1/2.
Also double checked prop and it is a shade under 12.25"
This is my first rig and haven't run in many other mm rigs. When I make a sharp turn I get a lot of cavitation is this normal?
Where would y'all recommend I start looking?
Who would y'all recommend do the looking? Work schedule leaves me play time not tinkering time.

Compression and leakdown test.
And get your transom height correct. The angle doesn't matter so much.

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
Would this be something you'd take back to Gator Trax and have done? I'm sure this sounds dumb but get nerveous with saw blades and boats;)
Any recommendations in Lafayette area.

 Re: Need help with Prodrive
I know you can borrow a compression tester from your local auto parts store. They may have a leak down tester also. Any small engine shop should be able to run both of those tests for you if you are not comfortable doing it yourself.
