Hunted yesteday morning before work. Pulled into my boat blind, decided the wind was not quiet right and a move needed to happen. Put it in reverse and started creeping back. Dont get very far and after a minute or so of hard reverse, I smell something like smoke. Flip my head lamp on and there is smoke coming from the clutch. It is also glowing a slight orange color... Kill the motor, pull it out, and wrapped around my prop is a palm branch from my blind, had to cut it off with a knife. Anyway let it sit for about 20 min to make sure it was good and cooled off. Started up, dropped into forward just fine. Hunted etc. No problems with it after. Reverse fine, etc... But i'm a little concerned about the clutch, and I dont want to get stranded because of it. I didnt have time to pull the cover off and take pictures because I had to rush into the office. I'll take pics and post this weekend. Until then anyone have any input for what I should be looking for in the way of damage indicators?? |

That would be your reverse pad slipping on the plate back there... You were trying to reverse through sand & nasty Galveston Bay sand/shell mud mix. It won't happen. Been there before. Your clutch is fine you just superheated your brake / reverse system... Next time don't trim down as far & make sure the prop is actually rotating. If you get it hot enough (which I've done ROOKIE mistake) you can actually melt that stock plastic clutch cover. To fix this issue double check your brake pad gap by pulling the clutch cover off. Use the allen head screws to set your gap on the brake caliper itself. Make sure when you pump the reverse or hit the reverse you can't spin the prop. Adjust as needed add additional brake fluid if needed in the MC. |

Clutch is fine. There is no adjustment on the pad gap for your motor you have the new style reverse. |
