 Charging System
I have a 35 GT. I had a little slow starting, so I cleaned my terminals and checked my charging with a voltmeter. What I saw may be normal for these engines I am just not used to it.
I had about 12.5 volts before starting and after running up the RPM's I got about 13.6 volts. The thing is I watched the volts slowly climb from 12.5 to 13.6 on my meter. I am used to a more instant change as an alternator kicks in, at least on other engines I have fooled with. Is this slow voltage climb normal?

 Re: Charging System
I'm curious about the charging systems too on the CDI, it seems like all you have to do is flood your motor and crank on it or use trim too much while the engine's off, and your battery is dead.

 Re: Charging System
If its a CDI w/ 50A stator, it charges at idle all the way up.
If its a 20A stator, it starts charging between 1800 and 2000 RPM.

 Re: Charging System
Thanks POKER. I think dirty terminals was the problem. I just wanted someone to tell me the slow run up of volts was normal for these charging systems. This is my fourth season with this motor and the 20 amp system has always been enough. I have some long idles but also some long runs. Thanks again.
