thinking of replacing my oil cooler and mounting a new, bigger cooler on the fan cover, or in the stock location (during the summer i would think a cooler on the fan cage would introduce more hot air into the block) as i have seen on other machines. what are some advantages to this? any disadvantages?

check this thread out. basically unless you are running a stage 3 motor (BPS 45+++) it is not really necessary. But still interesting none the less

You sure about that. I got a stage 2 and i watch hot a$$ smoke coming out my oil release hose. Only happens when im turning 4500 rpms. I was told its a good idea.

its a very good idea, I did a idle test the other day on mine with and with out bigger oil cooler. 10 minute intervals @ 75 degrees ambiant temp, was a 12 degree cooler difference with it on.

mine is the stock cooler mounted in front of the fan. i can run wfo and you can hold your hand on the cooler. try that in the stock location. I have bps cam, im heads, mikuni, and twin exhaust

Gonna see how this works. Went and ran it this morning WOT for a few miles. Could put bare hand on cooler. And I like the idea of stacking stock coolers.

That's exactly how mine is and it works great!
