My gdlt is starting to act like its being starved for fuel. I already changed the fuel filter and checked the hose to the motor for leaks. What would be the next thing to look at. I was thinkin carb but don't know if it could be fuel pump. I could keep it running by pumping the bulb but even then sometimes it would sputter to a stop.

Just clean it or should I get a carb kit to replace gaskets and so on?

Could be an air leak or trash in the bulb, is it staying primed when you pump it?

Tried a different bulb today and the problem is continuing. I'm gonna try replacing the internals of the carb and see what happens.

Ok I opened her up and cleaned out the carb, replaced gaskets, and changed out the needle on the float with a new one. Now she won't even start any suggestions?

Does your carb have any kind of fuel solenoid on it? Did you clean it while you were cleaning everything else? Did you plug it back in?

No solenoid.i broke her down and put it together again and now it starts, but we're back to sputtering. Got a new fuel pump on order we'll see if that does the trick.

is your tank at the front of back of the boat? Those low pressurs pulse pumps have a hard time pulling fuel through im assuming a 1/4'' line. Try moving tank to the back and plumb it with no quick connect. I talked to a briggs rep and he told me to run the fuel filter horizonal, running it vertical like it comes can cause vapor lock. Had the same problem with my 16 van and that took care of it. Another thing is ethenol fuel. Clogs briggs carbs up almost overnight. hope this helps.

My fuel tank is in the back. And I've tried bypassing everything between the tank and the motor and still no good. It runs good when it out of the water but once it bogs down it sputters till it dies. I can keep it running by pumping the bulb but after 10 miles it really make the hand sore. The store i ordered the pump through is now telling me they can't get it so I'm gonna try to order it myself. Anyone know the part #for this thing? Its a 95 16hp vanguard.

Does it do this at half throttle or only when you open it up? Also are you putting any additives to the fuel such as seafoam, stabil, etc?

Mine was doing pretty much the same thing, ended up being the fuel pump.

I ran heavy doses of Seafoam in a 16 at work and that didn't work out too well. Drained the tank, cleaned the plugs, and hadn't had a problem since.

I know you said you already cleaned the carb, take it back apart and see if the needle is attatched to the float. That would explain having to pump the bulb while running. Bowl fills up, raises float, and pulls needle down alowing fuel to flow as engine speed increases. Yours isnt pulling needle down your pumping the fuel around it. If this doesnt work call gil @ copperhead and ask for josh, im his son. Well get ya up and running.

It does it at mid throttle just not as bad. No additives in the fuel just 93 octane. I'll check the carb again tomorrow but I'm pretty sure its the fuel filter. Thanks for ya'lls help with this its been a real chore to get out to my huntin hole. I just can't bring myself to miss a day with this few left in season when i know there is a way i can make it out.
