Post Rev Limiter Question
I have a MB Black Death 4500 pushing an Excel 1751.. When I try to trim it up a little the rev limiter kicks in. The motor and prop are new 18 hrs and no wear on the prop. Should I change the gear ratio or add high rev coils? I was getting close to limiting out with the stock muffler now that I added the BPS "Q" muffler it seams to limit out every time I lift the trim. Thanks, Mike

High rev coils are on sale right now- $219.

I expect your gear ratio is already pretty low (thats a lot of mods for 4300 Rev limit) and with the high rev coils you may even be able to gear up if desired to get better hole shot. At a minimum you will be off the rev limiter.

There are step by step instructions for the coil change out on the BPS forum in the DIY section.

Thanks Deadbird, I think I talked to you before. Well I tried "Q" like you suggested and it sounds great. More rpms hitting the limiter with ease, I will give the high rev coils a try. Who has the coils on sale for $219. Thanks, Mike

I installed the coils yesterday. I will try it shortly!

Anyone replacing the coils needs to use caution with the torx bolts holding the debris screen on. The bolts are soft and round out easy after getting the bolts out I replaced them with stainless hex heads.

Where do I get the Hi rev coils? I looked on the BPS site, but can't seem to find them.

I bet those coils will really help.Especially on that smaller boat bet it nails the rev limiter when not loaded down

I took the boat for a ride with the new coils. OMG what a difference a set of coils make, much much better throttle response without limiting out and more top end by being able to run 4500 rpms. Running into the wind no problem hitting 30 mph and bumping 31 and still plenty of throttle left, pushing an Excel 1751 F4. Very Happy!

If you have a Black Death and are not running High Rev Coils your missing out!

Mud Buddy just anounced that the new Blacks Deaths will be shipped with high rev coils. The motors are made to run more than 4350 rpms. The coils are on sale at BPS for $219 and are worth every penny!

I would like to remove the screen but where I run their is a lot of vegetation. When I run the vegetation my boat fills up with seeds and weeds. I would think with out it some of them might get sucked in and block the air flow.

I wish I would have tapped the Torx bolts the one that rounded out took at least a hour of work removing it. But i got it out with heat and a drill bit.
