It sounds like you're either overloaded or trimmed too deep. Trim your motor up until you're in the 3850-3950 range and see what happens, if you're not overloaded you should gain a few mph and a few extra feet on the rooster tail.

1 person I'm getting 3750rpm and 31mph. With 3 people and all hunting gear I'm getting 3610rpm at 28mph. Not bad speeds but thinking I should be able to get a few more rpms

They come from the factory set a little low. Adjust your governor to where you turn 4200 rpm's out of water

My stock motor would at best get 3800 in deep water and 3950 ish in shallow water. 3700-3750 with a LIGHT load..

Speeds are not a lie, motor is on a 16x42 skiff. I will mess with the governor today

Just exhaust won't make no change that drastic in your rpms. Now the otter stuff you'll be rolling good then. Suggestion on what you wanna do to it. Drop the carb and get a cam instead. Carbs can be a royal pain in the ass

What does a carb actually add besides better throttle response?

Gary, if you are capable of doing the work yourself, would you agree that the cam is considerably "more bang for your buck"? Really even if paying someone for the work. Cam and install can't be much, if any, more than a carb kit.

Phuck it. Why argue over which one? Just go with exhaust, heads, cam, and carb.

Oh, I wasn't arguing. Just curious what his opinion on it was on it. I knew he recommended the carb for ease of install, but if you take that out of the equation, what do you think is better. Guess it would still be different for everyone though. I'd prefer to have better load carrying and more importantly be able to step a heavy load vs a mph or two on the top end. My logic says cam is better for that and carb would be better if you want something on the top. Just curious what Gary's thoughts on that were.

Thanks. That was the way I saw it, but noticed you and Andy both almost always recommend the carb before the cam. Now I know why.

Then I might just add the heads on for now to go with my exhaust
