Post Can o Worms.....Which Motor??
I sold my small boat (14x40) and in the spring, Im ordering a new one. (17x54)

Im switching from a Long Tail to a surface drive.

So which motor do I get....

Gator Tail GTR35
Prodrive X36
Mudbuddy HD35

Im leaning towards the GTR35 right now. My buddy has one. I dont know much about the other 2 brands.

I just want ya'lls opinions on the brands, warranties, problems, likes, dislikes, etc.

I know this is a broad question (ford/chevy) but just tell me whatcha like and why you like it.

Much Thanks

Drive them ALL & see which one you like. Don't just buy into the hype. It's your $$, you need to make that decision. However, if you prefer to let someone else tell you what you should buy, I think you should get a brand new Cabela's edition F-250 & have it titled to Rob Vail.

Haha I'll keep that in mind Rob

I dont know that I will have the ability to test drive them all. As I said, I can drive the GTR, since my friend owns one, but I dont know anybody who owns the other 2.

The only thing I'll add to your post besides test drive, is to go the extra foot on your hull and make it 18'.

also look at how close is dealer/service...some may agree or disagree i'm SURE of it....i got my 23hp HD Sport from Daley's Hunt & Fish.....5mins from house. If anything goes wrong I've got their service department right here...Plus SETX Performance is right here too if I want mods....would i like to have had the convenience of reverse in a 23hp Gator-Tail...sure....but couldn't afford it when i was in the market to buy. I have no regrets and love my mudbuddy.....plus Mercury trim is very nice

DeathMetal - The boat Im having built is the 17x54 with the 20" rear huntdeck, which will make the bottom of the boat 18' 8" long. Good enough?

Another question, do those rear hunt decks, with thier elevated transoms make the boat any harder to turn around, increase the turning radius?

No the hunt decks I've drove didn't mess with steering at all.they are just handy to have imo. Easier to get in and out of mainly. But it also move the motor back so you don't waste 2ft of your interior space.also it seems they run flatter in the water.maybe it holds motor up a bit due to weight balancing of boat. My next boat will have One.

dead bird, how do you like your mud buddy?
