Post subject:  what size surface drive?

I'm new here so first off Sup fellas. I currently hunt out of a motor pirogue in SE La. marsh with dog and gear, well now I have my 12yr old hunting with me and a 6 yr old wanting to hunt wit daddy next season so I have a 14 48 weldcraft flatboat and was curious as to what size surface drive to get? I was thinking maybe 27hp. The water gets real shallow out there on a normal winter. Any suggestions would be appreciated,Thanks

You can buy a 27 for your boat and it'll be fine. But you'll end up deciding that boat is too small eventually, so you'll want a bigger one next. So you'll sell that rig after you've beat it all up and end up losing money on it. If you look at expenses over the long run, it's always better to sell your stuff while it's in good shape, bite the bullet, and buy a big boat w/ a 36 to start with.

Sell that boat. They have some good used rigs that will perform much better.

If u don't want to change boat and looking for a good motor I would go with a 18hp copperhead best speed power for the money and is not heavy

X2 on the 18hp copperhead
If you plan to get a bigger boat eventually then you can invest in a larger setup

On the otherhand - the 27 is a sweet motor...
