pull the pin out and see if something is in the spring |

Post subject: | Re: Prodrive manual reverse not working HELP! |
The pin itself is easily able to be pulled. The spring inside allows the pin to be pulled out and retract but when I push motor to the side to pull the pin it just feels like there is nothing for it to lock into. |

Pull pin and push handle...it should rachete around... there is a tensioner screw that holds lu so it dosent turn back with the handle. |

I tried just pulling pin and ratcheting motor but still nothing. It just continues to freely pivot like I'm steering |

Make sure the tension knob is snug. |

you need a little mud or something to hold the lower unit in place. Mine doesn't do so well trying to just put it in reverse from the boat. But when the skeg is held by a little pressure, it works fine. Have a buddy hold it or tie the LU off to something. |

Just relatized that above that black knob there is a threaded hole, it looks like a bolt goes in there. My motor has no bolt in it, pretty sure it's important, does it affect the reverse |

Post subject: | Re: Prodrive manual reverse not working HELP! |
I have had this happen before if the bolt just in front of the pin lock is new or looks new then that is the reason that it does not work. if that bolt breaks while the previous owner is trying to go into reverse it will brake the locking pin for the reverse. Some times the handle will fall out and will need replacement. But if they cought it in time the pin is sheared and needs replacement. Unlock the allen screw just above the black handle and turn the threaded insert just above it like unscrewing a bolt this will allow the pin to fall out and at this point you can see what is going on with the locking pin look in the hole with a light. Hope this helps. |

You just have to put a little snap into the handle when you attempt to rotate the LU. If you just move the handle back and forth it won't work. |

Then after you figure it all out, go to www.mudmotorstore.com and buy the reverse pin puller. |

Post subject: | Re: Prodrive manual reverse not working HELP! |
I will check to make sure the pin hasnt been replaced. It sounds like that may be what happened. Though i did get the LU to turn into reverse, so at least can get her turned around but i still think it isnt working 100%. im adding a pic that i questioned earlier, just so i know what it is exactly so when i call prodrive they know what i need |

The black knob is your tension adjuster. Make sure you grease your reverse fittings. They are on the back of the motor, behind the muffler, one is underneath the clutch mounting plate and one on top (probably right behind the black clutch cover). As you rotate the lower unit into reverse, you want to put 2 shots of grease in both fittings each time the pin clicks as you turn it. |

That hole on my lu is capped...its got from the factory a round plate the size of a quarter over where your hole is......there are two allen screws on the opposite side of lu and a grease fitting. |

I definately was not going to run it unroll the hole was plugged. I'm guessing that is where I would add lower unit oil |

No way?! Really then water will get into the upper end of the lower unit?! |

Post subject: | Re: Prodrive manual reverse not working HELP! |
yeah, its not a totally sealed lower unit. Turn your motor on its side and 90 wt. will run out where the clutch meets the lower unit. And that missing bolt is on the outside swivel housing anyway right? That hole will not lead to the inside of the LU. Prob put a grease zerk in it. |
