Mud Buddy used to put the 40s on sport frames a few years ago. Never rode in one with it. But I'm sure they pushed pretty good.

Mdubuddy and Beavertail both did. But the carburetor and governor system is a real PIA so MB quit offering them, dont know if Beavertail still does or not.

Also in a side by side comparison the 35 Briggs is virtually identical in power.

Been kickin the idea of building a surface drive style system w this motor w the ideas from a mud buddy and gatortail platform w a lil godevil in it. Been workin in a machine shop for the last couple months. Just an idea. I figure I could always build a badass duck plucker if it don't pan out.

I ran one last year on a Gtr frame it's carb sucked bad!!! As for as speed it was the same as a 35 Briggs! I found the Briggs had more bottom end power!!

Ideally what would be the best motor I could buy to do upgrades to in the future. I don t like the idea of aluminum heads. I see there are after markets out there by for a stock motor what would be an ideal powerhouse for a surface drive motor

From what I've heard, the generac might be the next go to motor. It's a little stouter block where it counts, and more and more aftermarket parts are showing up. Again, this is hearsay from folks actually running them.
