Has anyone tried it with the plate removed? any results... seems like to me it hurts the performance in pure mud...not sure but curious. I know the gatortails do a little better in pure mud due to it being able to get deeper, but it seems the cavitaion plate on the prodrive doesnt allow the mud to fill back in on top the prop... lets hear it... |

I do have a solution to your problem though. Whenever you get tired of searching for the answer, let me know. |

ima have to try it, cause it seems to me that is a lot of the problem...i was always able to get out of what i got into, but it sure seems that the damn cavitation plate does more harm then good! ima have to call prodrive and see what they think or why they put them on... i would think there has to be a reason besides to keep you from cutting a hole in ya boat in reverse....but maybe not, maybe it will improve the mud performance... im not asking for the same performance as the longer gator tails, or mudbuddies but it sure seems like it would help. |

The prop is the problem. There was a guy here that had his own props made...night and day difference in the mud. But still not as good as that of the almighty... |

I never provided the answer. Good try though. I see your skills at being clever are honed to the same razor sharp perfection as that of your ability to choose the more dominant mud-motor. |

viewtopic.php?f=41&t=21193&hilit=+Duckduckboom I cut mine back a good bit more then BayouBoy did. I cut all the way to the middle bolt that holds the cav plate on. At first I did it the same amount went hunting then the same day I came home and cut it back way more. IT made a significant difference while in the MUD or real shallow. I suggest gettin this done! ![]() |

im thinking that plates gotta be a major hold back in the mud... i know one thing, i havnt rode much in the mud but when i did i know the two motors with cavitaion plates had the most trouble! Never got stuck, but the prodrives and GDSD's didnt do so well... so it made me think, the gdsd's have the lenght to dig a little deeper then prodrives but didnt do any better in the mud...and at least the pd could reverse and dig a little to get out....once stoped the gdsd's were done for a while... looking at them both, they both have cavitation plates.....so im thinking this may be the major cuprit... im choppin mines... |

That plate also keeps the prop from hitting the bottom of your boat when in reverse. If you remove it or make it SHORT keep in mind to check prop clearance from the bottom of the hull. |

here is the pics of the cav plate cut out I did. It helps a great deal IMO in mud and getting up in real shallow. I used a saws-all, 4" grinder and a flat/curved hand file. ![]() |
