Post subject: | Starting issues with 35 HP vanguard |
Hi, I have a 35 HP vanguard in a mud boat. Motor was a straight drive and ran fine. I installed a transmission and been having trouble starting. I have to work the throttle a lot to get it to try to start. once it starts it runs fine. Once i installed the tranny the motor is at an angle. Does this have anything to do with it??? I am getting fuel to the carb. Also does the Anti-backfire solonoid have something to do with it. Please help Thanks HAM ![]() |

Does the motor have a mercury switch on it? Does it crank and run at all or just spin over? |

Thanks for the response. It doesn't have a mercury switch. I have to pump the gas to get it to start. After that it will start every time. Once I let for several hours it is hard to start again.. I have a feeling that with the angle the engine is at the fuel drains out the carb. once it sits for a while. Is there a spacer to go under the carb. to get it some what close to level? |

Sounds like an electric fuel pump would be your easiest fix. |
