Post subject:  new problems

iv got a 36 pd and have put IM heads, carb and MM exhaust on it and everything has been working great until the other day.
i had swapped in a new fuel filter and it looks a little different than the stock one, iv noticed it dosent fill all the way up or past half way and now think i might need a E fuel pump.
thanks for any help

problems

fuel always seams to be dripping/running out of the carb through the tiny black hose on bottom of carb

When running over WFO the motor seams to bog down a little, then rev back up for a couple seconds then bog back down.

I also have been having a very hard time starting. even if its been warmed up, it will cough out little puffs of smoke out the exhaust ( sometimes out the air filter) and after 20 seconds or less of me playing on the throttle it will finally turn over.

When shutting the motor off i have also had run for several seconds after i turn it off. but this last weekend when i was running some trot lines i turned it off and it kept running and started to idle up. i panicked a little and reached back there and pinched the fuel line and covered up fuel overflow valve (i think, front side top right of carb, kinda got in way of carb bracket.) and it turned off.

none of these problems have happen before i but on the new fuel filter, except the engine turning over a couple more times after shut off. i have ran the motor several times with the new fuel filter, but this last run i had all sorts of problems.

i had a similar problem mine ended up- being a broken wire. one problem you may have trash in carb. fule dripping out of over flow vent just get a new plug for it also fule filter is fine mine only fills up half way the carb is still getting what it needs.

fuel comes out of my carb in 2 places when i pump my fuel bubble tight. the first is the black tube that comes with the carb that attaches to the bottom of the carb, and it seams to always be dripping fuel, when ideling, moving on plane, and will drip after its shut off for a little bit.

the other place fuel comes out of is a metal 90 on the front top side of the carb and will shoot out a lot of fuel when the bubble is tight. is there supposed to be a rubber cap on this one?

my fuel filter does not even fill up half way, it fills up just enough to get to the fabric part of the filter.

and as for the one on the bottom of the carb, it just seams like it shouldn't be letting so much fuel out all the time, it will stop when i start using more gas/higher rpm, but when i slow down it goes right back to draining fuel.

If everything was fine till you changed the fuel filter i think it may be the type you bought

thanks for all the help guys ill be checking what y'all have told me,

and cody the time it ran off the worst was when we were running trot lines, soo we made a 1 mile run, stopped to set one out, ran up 50yds, and put out another did this 4 times and on the forth line i thought i had a run away engine. so it wasn't like i was running WFO and flipped the key off. and we took a couple minutes at each spot setting out the trot line and would ease on up to the next spot.

the only thing that has really changed is the fuel filter and that has brought on new problems. i will go back and check for some air leaks as that sounds like that could be a easy problem but i don't remember seeing any air bubbles in the fuel filter.

and if its the needle that needs to be adjusted would that solve my fuel drainage problem? or would that be something to do with the float adjustment?
