I just bought a used 27 Beavertail with low hours. I had it shipped. I cannot get it started. It will turn over but not start. I pulled the spark plug and there was some black on it, smelled like gas, maybe flooded. Is there anything to look for as of why it's not starting. I don't have a primer pump on my fuel line, could that be why?

is your kill switch on?

How can you tell? It's just a little button. I pushed it in. I first though I had the killswitch wire plugged in the wrong female so I switched it , while the key was still on like a dumbass and it sparked. Now it wont do anything. Like I might have fried starter.

i am not sure what style kill switch beavertail uses. Are you getting a spark to your spark plug?

I'll have to check after I get the starter issue figured out now

Does not having a primer ball make an issue? Figured I didn't need one bc of fuel punp

What do u think about the spark plug

Post subject:  Re: Kohler 27 not starting

its hard to tell from picture. once you get it turning back over. plug the spark plug into the boot and hold it by the RUBBER, then press the threads of the spark plug against the heat shield and turn it over. you should see if it is sparking

10-4. Do you think me plugging the wrong wire into the killswitch could have blown the starter?

If the sparks plug smells like gas and is wet, the primer bulb isn't the issue.
You are getting fuel.

Make sure the kill switch is in the right slot, I took mine out and put it back in the wrong spot, it would turn over but not fire. Scared the shit outta me in the swamp.

Yeh I plugged the killswitch into the white wire like Beavertail says. It's when I plugged it into the yellow and it sparked and won't even turn over now

I just realized something. If I dont have the red killswitch spiral wire not hooked onto the killswitch button will it not start on a Beavertail?

Yes you have to have the kill lanyard hooked up for it to start

Do you know why it was the first thing i asked you? We have all been down that road. Remember to open the vent on your gas tank also. it will have you scratching your head if you don't

Checked out starter and it's fine. Now I need to find out what I screwed up when plugging in the wrong killswitch wire with key on.

Found the problem. There was a fuse on one of the wires that blew. Gonna pick one up tomorrow

Post subject:  Re: Kohler 27 not starting

That's what we were asking, if the lanyard was hooked up, not if wires were connected.

I pulled mine out in the swamp and hooked it back up, got ready to crank my motor and it would turn over but wouldn't start. After awhile I called someone to get me and my phone was dead
Got panicked but after I calmed down I realized it was hooked up wrong.
