I don't think I would have grounded it to the plastic shroud... Mine is actually on my block somewhere with some other grounds. |

that cover is metal and the bolt goes into the block. thats what i was thining too tho. they instaled it at backwaterinc and thats all the white wire they left me. i guess i could add some and try another grounding spot |

Replace electrical tape with heat shrink you really don't want water / corrosion getting into those connections. Might be a bad tach. did you call them and ask if they checked the tach before sending it to you or you picking it up... |

If anything scuff up the area under the ground so it gets a better connection to the ground. that might help so ya dont have to move it. |

yeah i plan on redoing it with heat shrink if it starts working i had to remove it tho to see if i had more white wire to move it and i didnt. i called bw and they said theyd call tt and either way we'd get it fixed. just wondering if anyone else ever had a prob with one |

Ive went through 2 bad tacs. One with 65 hrs that just shutdown and the new one with 8hrs. Now ive had no problems with the one thats on the motor. Just had bad luck I guess. |

Those tach's are powered by a watch battery, and they only last for about 4-5 years anyway, but recently I have found quite a few bad ones (or ones with bad batteries that is) that faild within a year. Cant say I have ever got one on a motor that was bad from day 1, but it doesnt surprise me. |

I'd contact the person/company you bought it from for warranty. |

Just to double check. The tach has NEVER displayed anything?! If so, I'd request a replacement be sent to you. Tell them to provide you with a return postage for the bad one or if they let you keep it then problem solved, at least you'll get a new one that will work right. I've never messed with one / installed one but is there some sort of protective film that rides between the battery & connections on the back side? You remove it & it will work? I don't think there is but something to think about... |
