A friend of mine is having trouble with his longtail motor. It seems to run fine out of the water, but once his prop digs in he claims the motor acts as if it's bogged down runs with no power/low rpms. He knows how to clean out a carb and assures me that all of the jets are clean. After that, Im of no help to him. Any suggestions? |

If its that Honda that Zane was messing with during duck season, I told them to cut the plunger off the solenoid or plug the hole with a bolt. Is it that same motor? Did he ever do that? |

I am verifying the motor right now. I do think it is the same motor but not 100% sure. |

If they never took that solenoid out, I'm almost certain that's what is causing his problem. |

Tell Zane if he aint gonna listen, he shouldn't ask for suggestions. ![]() |

Its not Zane's motor. Its one of their buddies, but Zane did call during duck season about it and it sounds like its still the same problem. If they never messed with that solenoid I'll bet that's what it is. I talked to them yesterday but didn't realize what motor it was until we hung up the phone. He says Carb is clean and it has good spark. |

![]() Ftr, if it ain't that, check for air leaks in the hose, loose fittings, etc. Also check for intake air leaks. If not that, go back to basics & do a leak down test. Sent by carrier pigeon. |

Im in late on this one but could he have too big of a prop on it, maybe a bad prop shaft bearing or your sure its somthing else? Somtimes I overlook the simple things, were all guilty of it! |

Don't think it's the prop. The prop has been on this unit for a while so it's probably something new. |

No one mentioned the governor adjustment. The loss of rpm under load= incorrectly adjusted governor. I see this quite frequently on Toro's with horizontal Kohlers. After they get a couple of hours on them, its time to adjust them. I know his motor is a Honda twin, but the principle is the same. I know on the Honda singles, there's not really a whole lot of choices as to governor spring relocation, but maybe the Honda twins allow for different spring positions? On the Honda single cylinders, you move the throttle to WOT, then turn the governor shaft clockwise (rotate it the same direction as the throttle linkage pivots). I hope it helps. |
