Just add a cam, heads, & exhaust, then call it done.

Re: whats the difference betwwen stage 1 an stage 2 etc
Stage 1,2,3...don't really mean anything. Everyone has their own recipe. HP ratings are bogus unless the engine has actually been put on a dyno. X2 on Camo. Lots of folks happy with that combo.

Re: whats the difference betwwen stage 1 an stage 2 etc
you can port&polish the stock heads nad theres a few places you can get cams from but one of the best i've seen on here is hoyt's cam. as far as the exhaust goes you can get one from Backwater performance systems and marshmellow exhuast

hoyt is the main engine guy at gator tail(call gator tail and ask for hoyt), his camprovides low and mid range power as well as carrying a hell of a load get in touch with hoyt and he can tell you all you need to know on his stage 1(heads,cam ,exhuast)

Re: whats the difference betwwen stage 1 an stage 2 etc
if someone has ever had a problem wit his mods he aint on here. delta duck master's cousin(i think) has his old skiff wit a gtr stage 1(hoyt's) and it has over 1500 hours on it so they are very reliable.

Sounds like a problem your boy should take up with Hoyt. I don't know the cat but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't appreciate someone bashing his work on the net. Especially if he ain't here to defend himself or his work. Heard nothing but good things about the dudes work, your boy could just own a "lemon."

Re: whats the difference betwwen stage 1 an stage 2 etc
so head gaskets leaking theonly problem? that is a problem with all 35 briggs blocks it is very common and i honestly dont think hoyts mods would affect it that much jus get aftermarket perfromance head gaskets(thicker, better seal) and it will help alot

Re: whats the difference betwwen stage 1 an stage 2 etc
just tell him to get the "good" head gaskets and that should solve or greatly reduce the problem

Hell, you don't even need gaskets it serves the same purpose as decking heads...

Re: whats the difference betwwen stage 1 an stage 2 etc
I don't see head gaskets leaking. There is little pressure there. Hell I have been reusing the same head gaskets since 2009.

Re: whats the difference betwwen stage 1 an stage 2 etc
Over time if there is some minor defect or if the head wasn't torqued in the right sequence they can fail.
I would definitely not use the same head gaskets over and over. One little tear or a piece missing is all it takes for that compression to start in, then it will erode it away and you have a leaking head gasket.

Re: whats the difference betwwen stage 1 an stage 2 etc
i guess the head gasket my cousins stock35 mud buddy came with were defective because it leaked like hell and after he turned it into a black death 4500 he said he replace the gasket with a aftermarket one that was supposed to be "better" that motor ha over 300 hrs on it and about 230 of them with the mods and no more leaks so i dont know. anyway jus call hoyt, boatdr,or deadbird8 these people i listed i know have alot of hand on experiance with these motors and they can probably diagnose whats wrong with your friends motor.

head gasket leaking means defective gasket or warped/ improper machined surfaces.
