Post subject:  Sand and Rock Guard ??

I have a new boat on order and it will have a 35GTR on it. I rationalized that the prop will be better protected in my stump infested lake by having a rock and sand guard installed. I will be using this in a river that has large rocks in it as well but not as frequent. Does the guard cause much of a performance loss when it is on? Will I be ok leaving it off for running through stumps and over logs?

First mud motor for me so I am brain picking here to learn.

Lemme' know,

My props on two motors with 150 hrs total have prolly seen close to 1000 stumps hits and a good bit of them are direct hits.

For rocks it is something to consider, but don't sweat it in stumps.

Kind of figured this was the answer ya'll would give. I appreciate it, i think I'll go ahead and buy it but not install until I actually run the rocky river I fish. Good to know there won't be much stump issue.

Thanks fellas,
Curl

I have a Rock Guard on my GDSD and it seems to work great. you better try it both ways. Mine stays on all the time.

I run shallow rocky river and I hit rock bottom all the time and the rock guard does the trick. It just bounces off. I did run it once without the guard and I could tell little to no performance difference.
