I was letting the engine idle to heat it up before I changed the oil. It was running smooth and then it just died. Almost like it flooded itself. Let if stand for a while and try to crank it back up and nothing. Checked the fuel line, fuel pump, carb, vent on tank, everything that I can think of and can't get it to turn over. Tried starting fluid and it will turn over but wont run like the engine isn't getting fuel. Any ways, I need some advise on what to look for next. Any suggestions? |

Pull the fuel line going from the pump to the carb and turn it over, this will let you know if you are getting fuel. have you tried squeezing the throttle while cranking? |

Is your kill switch hooked up correctly? Are you getting spark? |

I think yall are taking the wrong approach at it. A engine that suddenly dies and won't even attemp to crank back up, even with starting fluid in the carb sounds like there is no spark in the cylinder. CHECK THE KILLSWITCH then report back. If that doesn't fix it, pull the plugs. If they reek of gas they are getting fuel, then put it in the boot, ground it against the motor and turn it over to look for spark. |

Is the end result not the same? I didn't tell him to keep cranking till his tank ran empty. |

Really don't know anything about pro drives but does it have an oil pressure sensor? Pull that wire and see if she'll run. |

This is probably not what it is, but the only time I ever had an issue that was even remotely similar, it was the fuel solenoid on the carb. |

the starter works and the engine is trying to start but it wont. I had it running and then the thing just idled down to where is just stopped and now nothing happens. It wont start but the starter works fine. The kill switch and clutch switch are working properly. The fuel line isn't blocked. The carb has fuel in the bowl. the spark plugs are firing. The vent is open on the tank. Just don't know. I think you all may be on to something with the fuel sensor. Any way of checking that? |

Take it off, cut the plunger off, and put it back in. Or put a short bolt in it instead. May not fix your problem, but you don't need it and it will eliminate it from the equation. |

Is your tach reading Rpms? I didn't re read the whole thread***** |

Post subject: | Re: pro drive wont turn over |
cant tell the rpm's. it doesn't run long enough to get to the other side of the engine. |

Post subject: | Re: pro drive wont turn over |
If your tach doesn't respond you are not getting a spark |
Author: | Woodiebuster [ Fri May 04, 2012 10:32 pm ] |
Post subject: | Re: pro drive wont turn over |
If its getting spark you should be able to hold the starter down and see the tach reading a few hundred rpm |
