I have an older model PD that was giving me some problems the last time I took it out. When the motor wasn't in gear it ran good. Once it was put into gear it would idle fine and would hit about 1700 RPMs before it started acting up. Had a lot of trouble getting it to go passed 1700 and it kept surging anytime I got near 1700. I thought it might be a fuel delivery issue but I wanted to see what you guys thought.
thanks

Have you messed with anything? Has the motor sat up a while?

Nope, haven't messed with anything since taking it out last. It's been a while since its been on the water, but, the motor has been ran for a little bit every few weeks at the longest. It was a new can of gas and sea foam is ran through it regularly so the gas itself shouldn't be an issue.

sounds like trash in the carb

if it started doing this while running it could be valve lash

Okay I'll try cleaning out the carb. The last time I had trash in the carb the motor ran shitty out of gear also though. Do the jets get clogged just enough so that it gets enough gas out of gear but under a load it doesn't get enough gas? It didn't happen while running, it just did this right away from the launch.

Yes, it's possible that the main has something in it and it's not causing an issue at idle or without a load. Pull the jets and clean em out, then go run it again. Hopefully that fixes it.

my high speed jet had a speck of rubber in it from the fuel line and caused the engine to run horrible under load once

Doesn't take much.

Makes sense. I'll clean em out and see what happens.
thanks
