Seem it starts and runs fine for about 5 mins or less then starves for fuel. Carb makes a sucking sound when throttle up from idle and dies if throttle not feathered back. Seems after it sits for a while it will crank up and run fine. My guess is water in fuel, or air lock? What are your expert opinions. Currently won't start. Will wait a few and try again shortly. On trailer so no emergency. |

Fuel pumps working fine. But my gas smells more like alcohol. I think I have water in my tank. Will flush it out well and try again later. Removed air filter and there was small pool of water in intak openimg. |

Definitely water in fuel. I drained fule line with electric fuel pump. Fuelnin line was murky looking. Should I run good fuel through engine quickly to avoid internal corrosion? Or wait till tomorrow when I have the time? |

For future reference you can shine a flashlight in your tank at night and if you see what looks like diamonds in the bottom that would be water. Sounds like another ethanol casualty! |

I would take the bowl cap off bottom of carb & pump new, clean fuel into carb & let some wash right on thru. Put the cap back on & run for a few minutes. Good luck. This gas these days sucks ass. |

I keep marine grade Stabil in my tank and it's the real deal. Try it Mr. Guidry. |

What Owen said plus add a water/fuel separator. Not expensive and easy to install. Had to do it on both the boats I have with merc outboards. Saves a lot of headaches. |

Cleaned out gas tank. Washed out with gas treatment. Let dry overnight. Filled with new fuel. Changed in line filter. Yesterday, I had drained all the gas lines. Started first crank today and running very nicely. The gas I drained from the tank was very opaque/murky looking...dirty as hell. The gas and water had separated in the tank with the bad stuff at the bottom. Lesson learned. I'm in the market for fuel/water separator/filter. Now, what to do with 5 gallons of bad gas? |

Over here the parish dump will accept hazardous waste from residents (tires, batteries, oil, gas, etc) but only in small quantites. |

Give it to a GD owner since they were invented before the fuel filter ![]() |

get one of those fancy funnels with the water screen in it and put it in your car or something. If my boat gas sits too long I just pour it into my gas guzzler 4.7L V8 jeep and its gone in no time (unfortunately). |
