Post RPM For a 2003 Kawaski 27HP LT????
Hi everyone! I am new to this forum and looking for some help... I have a 2003 27HP mud buddy longtail on a 16x48 Grizzly tracker john boat...this is my first mud motor and I love it!!! So my question is what is the high RPM supposed to be on these motors??? im questioning this because at my fastest speed im lucky to get 15mph...kinda think this is slow, so i started calling around and i have got about 4 different answers...I took it out this morning and played with the rpms and i have it at 3,200 in the water( With load) and when out of water it is around 4,400.....Is this too high???? At my fastest today i got 17mph for about one second, it mostly ran at 15mph...now i know the prop can play big on speed, as far as i know it is the stock prop that came with the motor, maybe a 9x6....Im going to messure it tonight if i can figure out how to....Thanks for any input ....also does any one know if they make engine upgrade kits for this motors???? J/w thanks

Prolly a worn prop if I had to guess, just measure tip to tip at its widest point.

3200 RPM's does sound a tad low. About 3600-3900 is where you want it.

What happens when you hit 4400 rpms?

It will tear a rift in the time space continuum. Owning a Kawi comes with alot of responsibility.

I had a feeling it was something to do with time travel.

I've also heard that the electrical fluid will flow past the heads at that RPM and corrode the springs in the connecting rod.

They addressed that problem in the 04 models though.

Hey Guys thanks for all the help.....i've been pretty busy haven't been able to get out until today....on the.plus side i did have time to camo the boat out and it looks great... So i played with the throttle cable and high and low stopper screws.... In my drive way at my high speed rpms are set to 3940 ish, in the water with a load i get 3400 at my highest...which by myself and only Necessities in the boat i got 17mph.... better than last time but then again i was alone on calm water..... I did messure my prop and it is 9inchs but i have no idea what the pitch is....it is not stamped anywhere on it..... I called a few mud buddy service centers and they said that maybe it is something with The governor on the motor and call a john deer service center...... Apparently they use a lot of Kawasaki motors in their lawn Equipment.. So does anyone know any good Mechanics in south eastern Wisconsin?? Or am i running at a good rpm and speed for that motor....? Thanks again guys wish i knew more about these things or had someone close by to give me a hand....lol

When I bought my Grizzly 1652 it had the same motor on it as yours. It would average 17mph@3900, 4100 out of the water. I had to keep playing with the throttle screw to set it right a few times. Probably spent close to 3,000 on repairs for that motor by the time i was done with it. Don't get me wrong they'rs some good ones out there. Keep an eye on your coil packs.

Thanks for the heads up about the coil packs... I think i'm going to take it in and have it gone through, just to make sure all is good...The engine does run good and sounds good. I'm just not getting the RPM's like everyone else.. Maybe it is the prop ??? but the prop isn't worn much at all ... maybe wrong pitch??? One thing is for sure, if there is major problems no way I'm sticking a good amount of money into it..It will be time for any upgrade! thanks again
