 Name that screw!
Had problems when I went out today with my new MB 35 CDI . Running above about 3300 the motor would start to bog down like it was out of gas and die. So I turn around head home and it dies about 3 times till I figure out if I keep it around 3000 it'll be ok. Then it was being funny about starting and idling. Tried pumping the ball and it wouldn't stiffen up. Turns out the hose clamp on the elbow sticking out the top of the gas tank (7.5 gal Gator Trax tank) is loose. As I snug it down good I look up and my friend the rocket scientist is turning away a the "idle screw". Looking at the back of the motor between the carb and the muffler it's a phillips head with a spring around it on the carb/throttle linkage that contacts the little plastic/nylon bracket. It looks to me like it's something to do with the gouverner.
The first question, Has anyone else had a problem with the hose clamp loosening up? Im guessing it vibrated loose bc I ran around sun with no issues. I do notice there is alot of vibration in the rear ESP when straightening out from a turn.
Secondly, What is this screw called and how would I go about adjusting it back to where it needs to be set?
Thanks in advance for any help!

 Re: Name that screw!
Connection was probably loose from the start. With a low PSI fuel system, any air causes problems.
Governor adjustment screw. You have a CDI so there is a rev limiter built into the coils. Just adjust the G- screw so you can get all the way up to the 4300 rev limit out of the water (slowly increase the throttle up to that point).

 Re: Name that screw!
Thanks for the info. Is it something that needs to be precise? Or just turn till it spins 4300. You know off hand which ways up clockwise or counter. It didn't get that high in the water when I was runnin tho. Maybey 4000 trimmed up

 Re: Name that screw!
The rpms out of water will be higher due to the lack of resistance on the prop. This is why deadbird8 says come up slowly w/ the rpms. The rev limited will kick before it reaches the desired rpm if you come up to fast. At lower rpms you are not pulling as hard on the fuel system. The more pull the more air leak. Don't know how long you have had the boat but the inside of hose can deteriorate & loose rubber making it harder to seal.

 Re: Name that screw!
If the rev-limiter is in the coils why doesn't briggs do away with that mechanical adjuster?
Unless you want to govern it below 4300 I really don't see a point.

 Re: Name that screw!
You know, when I was messing with my 35 CDI a few weeks ago I was thinking the same thing, "why the heck am I having to install a governor lock on a CDI motor?"
I wish I didn't get rid of my stock linkage parts so I could help you out with this one that's gotta be pretty frustrating.

just made the adjustment prob go run later to be sure were back to normal. i was wondering if the clutch mattered for that adjustment, i did it without engaging the clutch.

 Re: Name that screw!
I wouldn't recommend running it out of water for long periods of time with the clutch engaged. You can get the shaft hot and melt a seal.
